Does the projector need to be inspected regularly?
Have you ever enjoyed clear images when you first purchased a projector, but after a few months the screen becomes blurry and the sound cuts out? In fact, many of these problems are caused by a lack of regular inspections.
To ensure your investment lasts for a long time, make sure you know the correct way to inspect it.
Why is it important to inspect your projector regularly?
Projectors project light through lenses and internal optical systems, making them susceptible to dust and temperature changes. Regular inspections are essential for the following three reasons:
-
Maintaining image quality
Dust on lenses and filters reduces light transmittance, making images darker and reducing contrast.According to Epson's maintenance guide, if you don't inspect it for six months, the brightness will decrease by 20% . -
Failure prevention
If the ventilation holes are clogged with dust, heat dissipation will be poor, the internal temperature will rise, and the components will deteriorate faster. In the worst case, the heat may damage the circuitry or even cause the device to automatically shut down. -
Longer lifespan
This also reduces the frequency of replacing expensive parts such as lenses and lamps, leading to overall cost savings.According to a survey by the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, the average lifespan of a projector that is properly maintained can be extended by approximately two times .
Specific items and implementation methods for regular inspections
The inspection can be broadly divided into three items. We will explain the procedures and tips for each in detail.
1. Cleaning the lens
The lens is the "eye" of the projector, and dust and fingerprints can cause speckles on the image.
- Turn off the projector and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes (until the internal temperature drops).
- Use compressed air (aerosol type) to blow away dust from the lens surface. Hold the nozzle 10 cm away from the lens and spray at a 45-degree angle .
- Gently fold the microfiber cloth and wipe the lens in a circular motion from the center outwards. Do not use cotton swabs , as they may shed fibers.
- If there is any stubborn dirt, wipe it with a cloth soaked in a small amount of lens cleaner. Do not use alcohol or glass cleaner (they will dissolve the lens coating).
- Just soak the cloth in the cleaner and don't spray it directly onto the lens.
- Try not to wipe in the same direction every time to avoid spreading the stain.
2. Cleaning and replacing the filter
Projectors are equipped with dust filters on their air intakes and exhausts, and if these become clogged, the heat dissipation efficiency will decrease.
- Turn off the projector and allow it to cool before removing the filter cover (the location varies depending on the model, so refer to the instruction manual).
- Remove the filter and remove any dust with compressed air . If the filter is stubbornly dirty, rinse it lightly with running water and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling it .
- For some Aestiquo models (e.g., Q1 Mini Projector), the filter is a consumable item, so we recommend replacing it once every six months . The recommended replacement time is when the filter color darkens.
- Do not use the projector without the filter (this will allow dust to get inside).
- After cleaning, be sure to dry the product before putting it back on (if moisture remains, mold may grow).
3. Check and clean the ventilation openings
The ventilation holes are an important part for releasing internal heat, and if they become clogged with dust, heat will build up and cause malfunctions.
- Turn off the power and use compressed air to blow away any dust from the intake and exhaust vents. Pay particular attention to the area around the exhaust fan, where dust tends to accumulate .
- Wipe the vent grilles with a microfiber cloth and gently clean stubborn dust with a soft-bristled brush.
- Check the installation location of the projector and make sure there are no walls or furniture too close to it . There should be at least 30cm of space between the projector and the wall.
- If you are placing the projector on the floor, placing a well-ventilated stand under it will improve air intake efficiency.
- If the unit is hung from the ceiling, check the installation status regularly to make sure that vibrations have not caused it to shift position and block the ventilation holes.
Inspection frequency varies depending on the usage environment
The frequency of inspections will vary depending on where and how often you use it. The Aestiquo user manual recommends the following:
| Usage environment | Lens cleaning | Filter cleaning | Check ventilation holes |
|---|---|---|---|
| For home use (3-5 times a week) | Once a month | Once every two months | Once a month |
| Office/School (daily) | Once every two weeks | Once a month | Once every two weeks |
| Dusty environment (factories, etc.) | Once a week | Once every two weeks | Once a week |
- If you use the unit in a humid environment, be aware of mold growth and clean the filter more frequently.
- If you will not be using the product for an extended period of time, turn it off, make sure the ventilation holes are not covered, and store it in a dry place.
Precautions to take when inspecting
Be sure to follow these instructions to ensure safe inspection.
-
Power and Cooling
Before inspecting, be sure to unplug the power cord and wait for at least 30 minutes until the lamp and internal components have cooled completely . Touching them while they are still hot can cause burns. -
Use the right tools
- To clean the lens, use a special microfiber cloth and lens cleaner.
- Do not use metal tools or brushes as they will scratch the surface.
-
Disassembly is prohibited
Replacing or repairing internal parts requires specialized skills. Disassembly by the user may not only cause malfunctions but also void the warranty. If a malfunction occurs, please contact Aestiquo 's support center (service@aestiquo.com). -
Periodic inspection records
Record the date, time and details of the inspection. This will help you identify the cause of any problems that may occur.
Summary: Regular inspections are essential for extending the life of your projector
Proper maintenance of your projector will allow you to enjoy high-quality images for a long period of time. Carefully check the lens, filter, and ventilation holes, and inspect them at a frequency appropriate to your environment.
When inspecting the projector, be sure to check the lamp usage time in the projector's settings menu. The typical lamp life is 2000-5000 hours. If the lamp is nearing the end of its life, prepare a replacement lamp in advance to avoid the situation where the lamp suddenly burns out and becomes unusable.
By taking good care of your projector, you can enjoy it comfortably in a variety of situations, such as watching movies or giving presentations. Make it a habit to perform regular inspections to ensure that you can use it for a long time!
